Once seen as cutting-edge technology, the telegram was the precursor of many modern technologies. Now, the iconic service has come to an end in Belgium, one of the last countries to have kept it alive. The last distress call from the Titanic, news of the first flight and the US' entry into World War I - the telegram has been at the heart of history on more than one occasion. Now it is coming to an end in Belgium, one of the last countries to use the messaging service. The final message has been sent, 171 years after the country's first electric telegram was delivered.
