Korean Air abduction: Family separated for 48 years
As 2017 comes to an end, we're looking back at some of the biggest stories of the year, through the eyes of five families. In our final report, we focus on tensions on the Korean Peninsula and families split between the north and the south. Hwang In-cheol, a man who has been separated from his father for nearly five decades, still hopes for his return. His father was among the 46 passengers and crew aboard Korean Air YS-11 that was hijacked into North Korea in 1969. Thirty-nine of the passengers were released under intense international pressure, but 11 of them, including Hwang's father, were not allowed to return, nor permitted to communicate with their families.
