According to security sources, more than two tonnes of explosive material were recovered during an intelligence-based operation in Karachi’s Baldia Rais Goth area. A suicide bomber was arrested, while a mini truck and gas cylinders intended for use in the attack were also taken into custody in Karachi. Sources said terrorists were planning attacks on public places across Karachi, including suicide bombings designed to cause mass casualties. The explosive material, gas cylinders and the mini truck had been hidden inside a house in Baldia Rais Goth, Karachi, where final preparations were underway. Security officials said actionable intelligence about terrorist activity in Karachi had been received earlier. Acting on the information, security agencies worked day and night for nearly a week, closely monitoring movements and identifying terrorist hideouts in Karachi and nearby areas. According to sources, intelligence reports pointed to suspicious activity within a 30 to 40-kilometre radius in Karachi, leading to intensified surveillance and coordinated action. This sustained effort ultimately led to the recovery of explosives and the arrest of the suicide bomber in Karachi. Investigations revealed that the terrorists belong to the banned BLA Bashir Zeb group, also referred to by officials as Fitna-e-Hindustan. Sources said terrorists, facilitators and handlers linked to the group have been using Afghan soil to plan and support attacks targeting Karachi. Security officials said intelligence obtained from the arrested suicide bomber is being used to trace handlers and facilitators involved in the network. Further arrests are expected as operations continue in Karachi. Authorities said timely intelligence sharing and coordinated action by security institutions helped save Karachi from a major terrorist incident. Investigations are ongoing. CTD Busts RAW Terror Network In Karachi On August 23, 2025, the Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), with the support of an intelligence agency, announced that it had dismantled a terrorist network linked to India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and arrested four suspects involved in the murder of social worker Razaullah Nizamani. At a press conference held at the Central Police Office, Additional IGP CTD Azad Khan Tanoli, flanked by DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar, said Abdul Rahman/Razaullah Nizamani was gunned down on May 18 in Matli, Badin district. He noted that the murder was carried out amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following the Marka-e-Haq on May 9–10. The Indian media immediately highlighted the killing as part of propaganda, framing it as a strike against an ‘Indian enemy’ in Pakistan, he said. According to CTD officials, the investigators identified the mastermind of the murder plot as RAW officer Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, who is operating from a Gulf country. The prime suspect, Salman Virk of Sheikhupura, hired by RAW, fled abroad after the killing and later escaped to Nepal. Tanoli said the CTD arrested four suspects—Umair Asghar, Sajjad, Obaid and Shakeel—on July 8 through technical surveillance. During interrogation, they confessed to working for RAW’s local network, admitted to ties with a banned militant group. They also revealed plans for further terrorist attacks in Karachi.
